In the desert climate of Kuwait, short winters give way to intensely hot summers which see temperatures regularly reach 131°F/55°C. In this harsh nvironment water is an extremely valuable commodity. Much of Kuwait does not have a mains water supply. Water for washing and sanitary use is supplied to homes via tankers filled at government filling stations. The water is purchased in advance by the tanker driver by means of a pre-paid smart card. The Aquaflow Water Dispensing System from Weststone Projects Ltd is the system which controls the driver’s access to the water and the dispensing process. With over 700 successful installations in Oman, Aquaflow became the obvious choice for the water control system in Kuwait.

To the team at Weststone it was clear that a key element of the Kuwait system would be its durability. The system had to function in the harshest of conditions (Kuwait registered the hottest temperature on the planet in the summer of 2011). Every component selected by Weststone had to undergo rigorous testing in their heat and IR chamber which was pushed beyond the 65°C mark. The filling stations have multiple filling points which all feature a keypad. The keypad is used by the tanker drivers to verify their identity and select the amount of water to be purchased. For the Kuwaiti project several keypads were tested and evaluated by Weststone.
